Education is what makes us the smartest living beings on earth.

I believe that the thing that needs to be focused on is that education is not just about making notes or listening to lectures. It’s more than that. It’s about adapting and discovering new talents or skills.

We are so focused on educating our youth on subjects like English, Math’s, History, Urdu, and Science that we forget the essential elements of life that should be taught from secondary school which may help our youth in practical experience.

The term ‘Life Skills’ refers to the skills you need to make the most out of life. Any skill that is useful in your life can be considered a life skill. Tying your shoe laces, swimming, driving a car and using a computer are, for most people, useful life skills. Broadly speaking, the term ‘life skills’ is usually used for any of the skills needed to deal well and effectively with the challenges of life.

Pakistan has a young population of around 60 million between the ages of 17 to 35 years, that remains unskilled and unemployed due to scarce resources. THF seeks to harness this youth body for growth and development, by imparting technical skills through training resulting in employment opportunities.

We should we teaching our youth courses that would help them in future. For example. If I talk about my experience with schooling I wish I did study and learn about courses like financial literacy, self defense, health education, human rights etc.…
The reason why I say this, is because if I learned about all this from a younger age it would’ve been very beneficial for me.

Do you ever wonder if finding the values of ‘x’ or doing geometry or algebra were to benefit you in real life?

Unfortunately, the Mathematic being taught to us doesn’t benefit most of us practically.

Our educational system should teach us a little about how to manage money sensibly. They should teach teens about smart ways to save money, budgeting, interest rate, taxes — These things can help students in real-life situations.

Living in a country like Pakistan, each individual should know how to self-defense. Yet again, we lack it. Only if the importance of self-defense and how to self-defense was taught in schools, the rate of crimes would’ve been lesser. Significantly, the quality of sexual assaults.

Apart from combat, self-defense helps an individual to be confident, healthier, and improves their psychological mindset.

Promoting good behavior at an early age helps to build character in our children, but health education should be an ongoing classroom and home discussion throughout their lives. Schools should provide necessary information about how to make healthy decisions — for example, why one should smoke or not. It is also important to educate the students about — sexual education, AIDS prevention, and other drug use.

Human rights are fundamental rights that one inherits since one is born. It is vital if one understands equality and know their rights. It is essential to teach students about it so they can explore, discover, discuss, and challenge their own beliefs and values. If human rights are violated, it helps an individual fight for their fundamental human rights.

Living in a country where there are ongoing matches every year of Cricket, Hockey, Wrestling, and Swimming. Why are sports considered as an extra curriculum but not as a whole subject?

One should consider teaching it professionally from secondary school. It makes a healthy lifestyle for a teenager. Not everyone is good at studies, some students are good at sports.

Logic and critical thinking is a fundamental idea which should be taught to students in high school. But how do we know if critical thinking will help students in practical life?

For example, an issue comes up, and if the student has adapted the skill of critical thinking instead of assuming or talking about the problem. He would come up with a solution. Critical thinking is not comfortable to be taught, but it empowers students to be independent, innovative, problem-solving, and helps them succeed in life.

So in my opinion, this is what Pakistan needs to most. Life skill education is a very important factor that we all need to focus on in educating our generation.
